Koh Yao English Summer Camp

WDI sponsored an English language summer camp at Aao Kapoh School on Koh Yao Yai Island in May 2013. The aim was to improve spoken English proficiency among students in grades 3 to 5, ages 9-12. Forty-two students from the area participated. The camp was staffed by six native or “near-native” English speakers. The curriculum included children’s songs, short dialogs and conversations, a skit, and language games. One successful innovation was creating a camp shop where campers could exchange coupons, received for excellence in English, for candy and toys.

This use of free summer time to enhance classroom instruction proved so successful that WDI will sponsor a science summer project during 2014 to enhance science nstruction in 2014.
